Haryana to Distribute Bicycles to 8,352 SC Girls Students in 2011

As many as 8,352 girls belonging to Scheduled Castes who had got admission to class VI in various schools in the year 2011 in Haryana have been given bicycles to facilitate them.

Stating this here today, Education Minister Geeta Bhukkal said that the Haryana Government was spending Rs 3,521.26 crore to provide primary education to the children and had already recruited 8,401 regular JBT teachers during the current financial year.

She said "Haryana is the first state in the country which has actively implemented Right to Education (RTE) Act in the state as a result of which Board examination for class VIII had been abolished. With a view to increase enrollment ratio of students in primary schools, 2620 anganwadi centres have been shifted to primary schools".

Ms Bhukkal said that as per the provision of the RTE Act, school fee received from students had also been refunded to them to ensure free elementary education from first to VIII class in the state.

She said that a provision had been made to serve 16 different dishes to the students studying in classes first to VIII this year. Every day one dish could be provided to students for lunch.

The Minister said that Shiksha Ka Haq Abhiyaan (Right to Education Campaign) was recently launched at Nuh in district Mewat to ensure that no child is deprived of education for want of funds.

As per the provisions of the campaign, a student would not have to show any proof of the age or any other accompanying certificates to seek admission to schools to get elementary education upto class VIII, she added.
